The delegation was led by Jonathan Choi, the Chamber’s Chairman, and Kevin Fan, the Chamber’s Vice-Chairman who served as its deputy leader. It included nearly 30 business leaders and professional representatives from various industries in Hong Kong. The delegation’s first stop was Binh Duong Province, where they held talks with Vo Van Minh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Binh Duong Province. Stressing that Binh Duong ranked second in Vietnam in attracting foreign investment, he expressed hope that more I&T companies would come to the province for development and support its industrial upgrading. Choi noted that Binh Duong has a similar industrial structure to Shenzhen, with numerous companies and a focus on the development of high-end manufacturing. Hong Kong companies can leverage their strengths in networking to enhance interactions between companies in Vietnam and the Greater Bay Area.
While there, members of the delegation visited various local government departments, the Head Office of Becamex, the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park, the Sunwah Innovation Centre and the Hong Kong Business Association Vietnam. They also engaged in and exchanged views with high-level representatives at these locations.
Explore business opportunities in finance, infrastructure and green economy in Vietnam
The delegation subsequently travelled to Ho Chi Minh City and paid a visit to Wei Huaxiang, China’s Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City. He expressed hope that Hong Kong would, in the future, encourage more Mainland companies to expand into the Vietnamese and wider ASEAN markets and jointly go global.
During the delegation’s discussions with Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, and Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam, the two sides had extensive exchanges on how to promote cooperation in related industries between Hong Kong and Vietnam. The Ho Chi Minh City Government will organize a delegation to visit Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese authorities are introducing a series of key policies and actively exploring emerging areas such as the low-altitude economy and green economy. They look forward to the active participation of companies from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in such initiatives.
Choi believes that Hong Kong’s strengths in professional services can help enhance connections between Vietnam and Greater Bay Area cities such as Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, thus promoting in-depth exchanges and cooperation with Vietnamese companies across multiple fields. In addition, the delegation paid a visit to Nguyen Van Tung, Mayor of Hai Phong City, and visited the local area to learn more about the construction, planning and preferential policies of the local industrial parks.
