History
Founded in 1900, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) is one of the oldest and largest such chambers in Hong Kong. CGCC aims to serve the community, and advancing with time, to maintain Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, reaching out to the world with its roots in Hong Kong and backing from the Motherland.

1900 - The Chinese Commercial Union was established in 1900. It was the only Chinese business organization in Hong Kong at that time. It acquired 30 and 32 Des Voeux Road Central as its site.

1913 - The Chinese Commercial Union was renamed as Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild.

1919 - The Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild co-published the Press for Chinese Merchants with The Hong Kong Daily Press
|
1922 - The Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild moved its office to 64-65 Connaught Road Central.

1928 - The Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild Library was opened.

1932 - The Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild was authorized by the Government to issue certificates of origin for goods.

1933 - The Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild started the Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild Yearbook.

1937 - The “Fundraising Campaign of The Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild” was set up to raise funds for Mainland compatriots in the battlefield.

1945 - The Hong Kong Chinese Merchants’ Guild immediately engaged in post-war demobilization following Hong Kong’s recovery.

1945 - The Director System of Management was changed to Supervisor System of Management.
